"Reset and Refocus: Practical Steps for Faith, Family, Fitness, and Finance"

"Daily scripture, no-spend strategies, simple workouts, and saving for dreams—kickstart your year with purpose."

FAITH

Faith: The Power of Daily Scripture and Accountability

Reading the Bible daily is foundational for spiritual growth, but staying consistent can be a challenge. One way I’ve found to stay on track is through accountability. For the past few years, I’ve been reading scripture every morning and texting a short thought or reflection to someone or a group.

This simple practice helps in two ways:

  • Keeps me consistent: Knowing someone is expecting my message encourages me to stay in the Word.

  • Fosters deeper discussions: Sharing insights can open the door for meaningful conversations and mutual encouragement.

If you’re struggling to build this habit, find an accountability partner. A small step like this can transform your spiritual life over time.

FAMILY

Family: No-Spend January

After the busyness (and expenses) of the holiday season, Dena’ and I are kicking off the new year with a “No-Spend January.” The goal? To reset our spending habits and focus only on necessities.

Here’s what it looks like:

  • Essential purchases only: We’ll only buy things we truly need—groceries, utilities, and unavoidable expenses.

  • Get creative: Instead of spending money on entertainment, we’ll focus on free or low-cost family activities like game nights or outdoor walks.

  • Reflect and reset: This break from unnecessary spending helps us realign our financial priorities and appreciate what we already have.

No-Spend January isn’t just about saving money; it’s about teaching ourselves and our family to be more intentional with what we have.

FITNESS

Fitness: Just Start—Bodyweight and Band Exercises

Getting started with exercise can feel overwhelming, but the key is to keep it simple. You don’t need fancy equipment or long workouts to see progress. Start with just 10-15 minutes of bodyweight or resistance band exercises a few days a week.

Here’s how to begin:

  • Bodyweight exercises: Push-ups, squats, and planks are great for building strength.

  • Resistance bands: They’re easy to use and effective for full-body workouts.

  • Keep it short and doable: Focus on consistency rather than perfection.

Remember, the hardest part is starting. If you’re unsure where to begin, reach out—I’d be happy to help you get on the right track.

FINANCE

Finance: Saving for a Dream Trip

Dena’ and I have a dream of spending a few weeks in Italy, and we know that dream won’t happen without intentional planning. That’s why we’re starting now by putting aside a few dollars each week.

The concept of delayed gratification is key—not just in finances but in all areas of life:

  • Faith: Daily Bible reading builds long-term spiritual growth.

  • Family: No-Spend January teaches discipline and resets priorities.

  • Fitness: Consistent small efforts lead to lasting health benefits.

By saving for a future goal, we’re learning to prioritize what truly matters and finding joy in the journey, not just the destination.

Housekeeping

Start the Year with Intention

This week’s newsletter focuses on building discipline and growth in Faith, Family, Fitness, and Finance through simple, actionable steps:

  • Faith: Cultivate the habit of daily Bible reading by finding accountability. For years, I’ve stayed consistent by sharing a short reflection with a person or group each morning, which has deepened my spiritual journey.

  • Family: Dena’ and I are starting the year with a “No-Spend January” to reset after the holidays. By focusing only on essentials, we’re realigning our financial priorities and teaching ourselves to appreciate what we already have.

  • Fitness: Starting small is key. Just 10-15 minutes of bodyweight or resistance band exercises a few days a week can set the foundation for a healthier lifestyle. The most important step is simply beginning.

  • Finance: We’re saving for a dream trip to Italy by setting aside a few dollars each week. This practice of delayed gratification not only helps us achieve financial goals but also reinforces discipline that benefits every area of life.

Small, intentional changes now will lead to meaningful growth and long-term success. Let’s take these first steps together!
